Last Monday, our club got to go to the Tulsa Comic-Con as official exhibitors! This means we got to have a dedicated spot and setup with other artists, cosplay groups, and other people with attractions to display or vendors selling items at the convention!
I have been to a few conventions myself, but this was the first time I was on the other side of the attractions featured at a convention. The idea was presented by our member Racheal (The club's SGA) and professional cosplayer. It honestly just made a lot of sense, considering the majority of people going to conventions are likely interested in Robotics and STEM projects. After we all agreed, she sent out an email requesting we be allowed to perform at the convention, and we got in! (Big thanks to her for making this happen!)
We brought the arena and the few working robots we had ready, and setup shop! I was only able to attend afternoons due to work, but we seemed to be a SMASH HIT! I'd argue we were one of the more popular exhibits. By the time I would show up, most of the flyers and free merch we made were gone, and all day, there were always people of all ages coming up and checking out our robots!
We had a lot of fun, hopefully got a lot of people more interested in the robotics & STEM community! Even had some dinner with the club afterwards!I wanna thank all of the members for their hard-work. Our only regret... None of us took a minute to see Tom Kenny, despite being 2 rooms away... Dang.
